Newcomers Guide

Check out the newcomers guide below to get started...

Before doing anything, we recommend that you read and familiarise yourself with our community rules so you are compliant and don't break them. We don't want to have to enforce the rules on anyone, let alone someone during their first time playing.

Our Values:

1. Roleplay

Roleplay is at the forefront of everything that we do here in British Life RP and should be everyone's priority. This is to ensure that everyone has the best experience. You join to roleplay and have fun, getting lost in the immersion that roleplay brings.

2. Be Helpful

Help others regardless of who they are. It doesn't matter if someone is a long-standing member or a newcomer; provide support to any questions that they may have and show them the ropes to help them take their first steps in our community. Provide information that will enhance their experience. There is no such thing as a silly question; guide those in need.

3. Be Respectful

We are a community; treat others how you want to be treated. Be civilised. Treat all members, regardless of who they are, with the kindness and respect that we all deserve. Regardless of age, race, gender, religion, nationality, interests or generally who they are, treat them with the same respect.

Character Creation:

Before joining the game, you must create a character and give it a name. Your name must be realistic and cannot be anything inappropriate or offensive. Your name, for example, would be something like this: John McDonald.

When you are connected to the game server, your name must be the character that you are currently running. This needs to be set up when you are in the launcher, and to do this, please read the following, depending on what launcher you are using:

DayZ Launcher:

  1. Go to "Parameters" on the left-hand side.

  2. Scroll down to "Command Line" and check the box.

  3. Type -name={your name}

{your name} is a placeholder. So the command would actually look like -name=John McDonald in the launcher.

DZSA Launcher:

  1. Go to Settings.

  2. Scroll down to the In-game Name input.

  3. Type your name in the box.

After this is complete, every time you enter the game, your name will be your character's name. Remember, if you change characters, your name must be changed to reflect your current character.

Roleplay Commands:

When roleplaying, you can use two commands. !me, which is used for text roleplay and to relay any in-character actions and !ooc, which is for anything that is out of character and isn't to be used in roleplay. Both commands will add a prefix to your message, clearly showing which is in and out of character. We do not come out of character. When you are in the game, everything must be in character only.

Earning an income:

So the primary way to make money in BLRP is to work various jobs around the map, which will give you supplies to craft different items to sell at the general stores. Most jobs have a primary location (Gathering) and a secondary location (Processing), and players must travel to both to complete the job. For example, if you are to work at the Stone Quarry, you will be making cement. So when you reach the stone quarry, you will be mining stone to turn into cement at the processing plant. After you have collected enough stone, or as much as you can carry, you will need to travel to the processing location to have the stone processed into cement bags. Once you have made the cement bags, you can sell them to a general trader for money.

There are other ways of making money that don't involve working a job; these are the standard "DayZ" ways, such as hunting, fishing, and creating a business, as well as illegal ways such as robbing fellow citizens, arms trading, and robbing banks. There are also Cannabis and Cocaine jobs, which can be found in the same way as the other jobs; however, the secondary locations for these jobs can only be found in character.

Additionally, we have government made jobs such as a Transit Company providing a bus and train service to citizens, law enforcement and medical services. These jobs can be applied for in our Discord and come with a set income, which is automatically paid every 30 minutes when you are connected to the game.

How to find the locations?:

To find the primary locations (Gathering) for each job, you will need to press Ctrl+1 in the game, which will bring up the workzone menu. On the left-hand side is a list of all job locations created on the map. In the centre of the screen, you will see a pin indicating the job location. If you aren't sure of the location, you can scroll out on the map to get a better view. To the right-hand side of the menu are the tools required for that job. You must have at least one of the listed tools.

To find the secondary locations (Processing) for each job, press Ctrl+1 again, then click the right arrow at the top of the menu to go to the License page. On the left-hand side is a list of the locations. In the centre of the screen is the same interactable map with the location pinned, and on the right-hand side are the tools (Materials) needed for the yield.

Licenses:

Some jobs require a license to work them. You can see what jobs need a license by pressing Ctrl+1 and clicking the right arrow at the top of the menu, which will take you to the License page. On the left-hand side, there will be a list of jobs that require a license. To purchase a license, you need to go to a licensing office, which is located in most major cities around the map, usually in town hall buildings or small offices. These locations are marked on the map when you press "M" and are coloured white. Some licenses require other licenses to purchase; however, this is only the case if the license you are buying says "Depending on" with the license you need next to it.

Store Locations:

There are many stores around the map that everyone can use. These stores sell clothing and other wearable items. A gun shop, for your legal weapons, ammunition and attachments. Pharmacies for your medical supplies. Vehicle Dealers for your Cars, Trucks, Bikes, etc. Heli Dealer. Boat Dealer. Black Market (Only found out IC) and finally your General Stores for everything else. In all general stores, you will find an ATM to the right as you walk in; you can withdraw and deposit money here. There is also a central bank located in the City of Chernogorsk.

Vehicle Parking:

Dotted around the map, you will see parking meters that allow you to park your vehicle. This is the best way to protect your vehicles from other players and from being cleaned up if you fall inactive. All vehicles can be parked here. Next to each meter, there will be a rectangle on the floor, which shows where your vehicle needs to be parked. When you retrieve your vehicle, it will spawn inside the rectangle. For helicopters, you can park them in the rectangles; however, at the heli trader, you will find a helipad on which you need to land and use the meter to park your helicopter. For boats, you need to park them close to the metres.

Laws:

In our community, we are governed by laws which are enforced by the Chernarus Police Department. These laws cannot be punished externally, meaning that if you break a law, you are not going to be in trouble with staff, only the Police. If you break a law and it's reported to or witnessed by a police officer, you may be arrested, fined, or have items confiscated as punishment. You can evade them if you don't want to deal with the punishment, but this can only be done by evading them in-game, not leaving the game until they leave. If you are arrested, your items will be taken from you and can be collected at the police station you were taken to, if they haven't been confiscated. You will then be teleported to the Chernarus Prison to serve your sentence. Each law has a different arrest time associated with it, if applicable, meaning that if you break that law, you will be imprisoned for a set amount of time. You can shorten your sentence by staying within a radius of the internal prison compound; however, you can escape, and officers will be notified to keep a lookout for you. Leaving the game will pause your sentence timer. You can view the laws here.

Medical Info:

In BLRP, we use the medplus mod, which adds medical conditions to the game and other aspects of life. This adds conditions such as concussions, wound management, knife wounds, bullet wound management, bruising, broken arms, leg injuries, overdosing, sleeping, and mental illnesses. This also adds the ability to pee and poo, depending on how much you have drunk or eaten. Alongside this, you have your standard DayZ vanilla illnesses. All of these can be treated with items purchased at a pharmacy, or you can call the Ambulance Service for assistance in emergencies. Some conditions heal over time or with activities such as hunting or fishing.

If you are ever in need of emergency life-saving help, you can request assistance from the Chernarus Ambulance Service, who provide a free service to all citizens. These respond to calls across the map and are always equipped to treat any condition or injury.

Base Building:

We don't allow typical base building; instead, you have to earn money to purchase a house. We have 73 types of properties that can be purchased anywhere on the map. All you need to do is go to the property you want to buy, look at the door, and scroll until you see "Open House Menu". Press "F" to bring up the house menu and see the property's price. Each property type varies in price based on its size and number of rooms. When you purchase a property, you can buy a storage expansion, which gives you a virtual inventory, additional extensions, and the ability to lock every door. You must make sure all doors are locked to stop others from entering. They can be burgled, but there are set rules for this. If you own a house, you can place storage items and decorations inside as you wish.

If you ever need support from staff:

If you need help from staff, either to report someone or for support with any issues, you must do so in our Discord. This is the fastest way to speak to staff. To do so, you will need to create a support ticket, and we will assist you. Don't go to staff directly. With all support and reports, please provide as much detail as you can, providing any video evidence when you can, this speeds up the process and makes it easier for all involved.

With this being said, this is all the information that you need to get started in British Life RP. Other information and features can be found in-character by speaking to fellow citizens and getting to know the place. Enjoy!
